UK Birmingham New Street 1993 UK

Similar to the 1982 version, but with the interim Cross-City service operating - electric only north to Lichfield, with diesel units maintaining the service south to Longbridge and Redditch. More HSTs on the cross-country routes, but still plenty of loco-changing.
The simulation is set at Birmingham New Street, often described as the hub of British Rail's Intercity system; it lies at the intersection of six major trunk routes. Add an extensive suburban network, including a dedicated cross city service, and you have a situation where rail traffic control is certainly not easy.
At the time of this simulation all services between London Euston and Wolverhampton were operated by Class 86/2 is push-pull mode with a Driving Van Trailer (DVT) at the London end. Some other Inter City trains were also push-pull but hauled by class 87 and 90 locos. Most of the non HST Cross Country services were hauled conventionally by electric or diesel locomotives.
Local services were mostly Sprinter class 150/1 or 150/2. DMUs of class 117 were being used on the southern section of the cross city line as the electrification had not been completed. The medium range Regional Railways services were operated by class 156 'Super Sprinters', while the longer distance ones were worked by class 158 'Express Sprinters'. There was a hourly electric (EMU) stopping service to Euston with the then new Class 321. The frequent electric service to Walsall and the northern part of the cross city were in charge of class 304 or 310 EMUs in the continuing absence of the new class 323 units, and there was a half hourly service between Coventry and Wolverhampton/Stafford also using class 304 or 310 EMUs
The station is seen on a summer Saturday in 1993. There are no freight trains working through the station; all use the various alternative routes. You have to direct all the trains in and out, selecting platforms to avoid conflicts between arrivals and departures, and adjustments will be needed when arrivals are running late.
