Deal with frequent local services on the Valley lines, also Regional Railways services to Portsmouth and beyond, Manchester and Liverpool, and Nottingham, most of which originate or terminate at Cardiff. There are also Inter-City services to and from Paddington, some of which terminate and form return workings. You also have to cope with extensive freight traffic, while units visit Canton depot for servicing or refuelling.

This simulation is set at Cardiff Central, on the South Wales main line, between Paddington and Swansea, as well as catering for main line services Cardiff is a key point on the Regional Railways network, with the intensive Cardiff Valleys services, turn round and starting point for services to the North-West, Portsmouth, Paignton and West Wales.
There is still a lot of freight traffic, which is mainly from the Metals sector, consisting largely of iron ore and coal from Port Talbot Steel Works to Llanwern Steel Works. There are a few other long distance trains, also a few of the merry go round trains to/from Aberthaw power station can be seen.
At the time of this simulation most Paddington - Swansea services were operated by HST (Inter-City 125) units. There may be an occasional class 47/8 locomotive standing in for an HST or on a relief train.
Regional Railways services were Sprinters class 156/158 on the main routes, Class 143 & 150/2 units on the Valleys network and some Class 108 'Heritage' units on the local services to Chepstow.
The station is seen on a summer weekday in 1992. Most freight and a number of relief passenger services operate only depending on the traffic available. You have to direct all the trains in and out, selecting platforms to avoid delays and minimise congestion. You will have to plan how to use the available platforms to avoid conflicts between arrivals and departures, and adjustments will be needed when arrivals are running late.
