This is perhaps the most interesting station on ScotRail, with a mixture of local services and through and terminating long-distance services on several routes. Several of these services are loco-hauled, including the regular Haymarket depot is just outside the area you control, and you have to request locos from there as required to handle the traffic.

This simulation is set at Edinburgh, the major hub of the Scot-Rail system in Scotland. As well as terminating services from Kings Cross, there are through Inter-City services to Aberdeen and Inverness. Scot-Rail local services are represented by the workings from Dunblane, Dundee and Glasgow Central (via Shotts). There is also the half hourly Scot-Rail Express service to Glasgow Queen Street. You are in control for an eight hour shift from 08.00 to 16.00 on a summer weekday.
At the time of this simulation most services to or from London Kings Cross were operated by Class 43 HSTs. The trains to the south via Carstairs are diesel hauled to Carstairs where the train is usually attached to the rear of the Glasgow portion of the train which is electrically hauled, the trains to Dundee are all loco hauled.
The station is seen on a summer weekday in 1985. Most freight and a number of relief passenger services operate only depending on the traffic available. You have to direct all the trains in and out, selecting platforms to avoid delays and minimise congestion. You will have to plan how to use the available platforms to avoid conflicts between arrivals and departures, and adjustments will be needed when arrivals are running late.
