This is one of the busiest stations in the north, and is the hub of a particularly intensive local service, with routes to Harrogate, Ilkley, Bradford, Sheffield, Wakefield, Doncaster and Selby, as well as several longer-distance regional services. Most of these are handled by diesel multiple units, and you are permitted to have two of these in one bay platform when necessary. The main difference from our previous Leeds 1989 version is the inclusion of holding points to allow a route to be set in two stages, easing the handling of conflicts between the various routes to and from the west.

This simulation is set at Leeds, a major hub of the rail system in West Yorkshire. As well as terminating electric services from Kings Cross, there are through Inter-City services on the North-East to South-West route. Regional Railways services are represented by the Trans-Pennine workings from Liverpool to Newcastle and Scarborough, as well as the shorter workings from Manchester to Hull and York. There is also an intensive local service linking Leeds with Harrogate (continuing to Knareborough and York), Ilkley, Skipton, Bradford, Blackpool, Sheffield (via Wakefield, both Westgate and Kirkgate) and Castleford (continuing to Knottingley and Goole); most of these services are operated by British Rail on behalf of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport executive, and units of classes 141, 144 and 155 carry the WYPTE colours of maroon and cream. You are in control for an eight hour shift from 08.00 to 16.00 on a summer weekday.
At the time of this simulation most services to or from London Kings Cross were operated by Class 91 with Driving Van Trailers (DVT) at the south end. There are also some HSTs on some of the long distance inter-regional trains. There are some Inter-City trains hauled conventionally by diesel locomotives.
The station is seen on a summer weekday in 1993. Most freight and a number of relief passenger services operate only depending on the traffic available. You have to direct all the trains in and out, selecting platforms to avoid delays and minimise congestion. You will have to plan how to use the available platforms to avoid conflicts between arrivals and departures, and adjustments will be needed when arrivals are running late.
