Following the 1993 remodelling, with a frequent local service between Sunderaldn and the Metro Centre crossing through and terminating services on the East Coast Main Line, and through freight on some routes. Through and terminating InterCity services include electrics, HSTs and loco-hauled cross-country trains; there are also Trans-Pennine class 158 services.

This simulation is set at Newcastle, on the East Coast main line from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh with branches to Carlisle and Sunderland. There is a fair amount of freight traffic, mainly from the Coal Sector, with a few other long distance trains. Most of the freight traffic that passes through the station area uses the goods loop to the south of the station, though some services use the through platforms 2, 3 and 4.
At the time of this simulation most services to or from Kings Cross were operated by Class 91 'Electra' locomotives with Mark 4 coaches and a driving van trailer (DVT) at the southern end, though some Inter-City 125 sets with a class 43 locomotive at each end may be seen on trains to/from Aberdeen or Inverness or the Inter-City Cross Country services.
Local services were mostly Class 142 "Pacer", 153 or 156 "Sprinter" units. Class 158 "Express Sprinters" were used on Trans-Pennine services to Liverpool. Local services to the west serve Metro Centre (Gateshead), Hexham and Carlisle; there are some workings beyond Carlisle to Whitehaven, Girvan, Ayr and Stranraer. Northwards there are occasional services to Morpeth. To the south there are services to Sunderland and Middlesboro by the coast route, and to Saltburn by the main line to Darlington and then through Middlesborough.
The station is seen on a summer weekday in 1994. Most freight services operate only depending on the traffic available. You have to direct all the trains in and out, selecting platforms to avoid delays and minimise congestion. You will have to plan how to use the available platforms to avoid conflicts between arrivals and departures, and adjustments will be needed when arrivals are running late.
