UK Penzance 1988 UK

Similar to Penzance 1984, but with fewer loco-hauled services and increased local workings.

This simulation is set at Penzance, in Cornwall. Penzance is the terminus of the main line from London (Paddington) via Plymouth, and is seen at a busy period on a Saturday in summer 1988. Some changes will be noted from our previous simulation set in summer 1984: classes 45 and 46 are no longer seen, the pattern of loco-hauled and Inter-City 125 long-distance services has changed somewhat, and Sprinter services are now in evidence, provided by units of class 155 based at Cardiff. There are also now several through DMU services to and from St Ives.
You have to direct all the trains in and out, selecting platforms to avoid delays and minimise congestion; you also have to manage the motive power depot at Longrock, a mile up the line, and ensure that locomotives and units are refuelled and serviced and that each train has suitable motive power.
