This simulation is set on the route between Bakersfield and Mojave, in central California, in early 1965. This line includes the famous Tehachapi Loop, actually located at Walong, where the line makes a complete circuit and crosses over itself. The line belongs to the Southern Pacific (SP), and the route between Bakersfield and Los Angeles via the Soledad Canyon was opened in 1876. Since 1899 the Santa Fe (SF) has had access to the line under a joint trackage agreement.
The portion of the route covered by this simulation extends from Kern Junction on the outskirts of Bakersfield to Mojave, where the Santa Fe route to Barstow leaves to the east, continuing southwards to Vincent, at the summit of the line leading to Soledad Canyon and Los Angeles.
You are in control for 12 hours from midnight to noon on a typical weekday. Some delays to traffic can be expected. Besides the late running of individual trains, there may be patterns of delay due to maintenance work and other operational factors. You will be given a report on any operational problems at the start of the simulation.
