UK Westbury 1989 UK

The junction of the GWR West of England main line and the cross-country route from Bristol to Salisbury and Southampton, as well as the hub of the Mendips stone traffic. More freight than in most of our simulations, with pleanty of engine changes.
This simulation is set at Westbury, a junction on the West of England main line from London Paddington to Penzance, which is crossed by the Bristol to Portsmouth route.
At the time of this simulation most services to or from London Paddington were operated by Class 43 (HSTs). There are also some Class 47/8 on some of the West Country holiday trains.
Regional Railways services were mostly Sprinters of classes 155 and 156, though some 'Heritage' DMUs may be seen on stopping services. There are also trains to Weymouth which were hauled by class 37/4's
Freight services were mainly stone trains from either Merehead quarry (Foster Yeoman) or Whatley Quarry (A.R.C.); these trains are worked by locomotives from the construction sector, with some of the Foster Yeoman trains being hauled by the American class 59's, leaving other trains in the hands of the class 56. The stone trains run from the quarries to the west of Westbury to various points on the system.
The station is seen on a summer weekday in 1989. Most freight and a number of relief passenger services operate only depending on the traffic available. You have to direct all the trains in and out, selecting platforms to avoid delays and minimise congestion. You will have to plan how to use the available platforms to avoid conflicts between arrivals and departures, and adjustments will be needed when arrivals are running late.
